Living in Lancashire means that you have a huge range of things to see and do on your doorstep that will keep the whole family entertained this February half term. With so much stunning countryside to explore not everything has to break the bank.
We’ve compiled a few of our favourites:
Brockholes Nature Reserve (Free – charge for car parking and special events)
Brockholes is made up of over 250 acres of nature reserve for you to explore with a mix of habitats from wetlands to woodlands attracting a range of wildlife.
Xplorer Challenge Saturday 11th - Sunday 19th February in partnership with British Orienteering
Two challenges available including one of which is pram friendly. You just need to find all the markers to win a treat and a certificate. Map packs are £3.50 online or £4.00 on the day and can be collected from the Welcome Centre
Brockholes Nature Reserve and car park is open 7 days a week from 6am to 7pm. Car Park charge is £5 for the day.
Pendle Sculpture Trail (Free)
At Aitken Wood on the outskirts of the village of Barley. This is an enjoyable walk for young and old although please note that it is steep in places which does bring the reward of fantastic views. The trail tells the history of the Pendle Witches through 10 ceramic plaques and alongside this you will find a series of sculptures including a unicorn, pixie, and a fairy.
Martin Mere wetland centre has a mix of activities and things to see and do and you can easily spend the whole day there taking part in mini raft making, pond dipping or watching wild bird feeds in the Discovery Hide.
For half term week (Sat 11th – Sun 19th February) they will again be putting on their annual puddle jumping championships. Every day from 2.30pm with a surprise for daily winners who demonstrate the most creative jumps that day. You’ll need your wellies and your waterproofs.
This is also the last opportunity to take part in the Lego trail where you can discover 15 giant Lego animals. (Ends 28th Feb)

Fylde Ice Festival (Free)
In partnership with Glacial Art, who’s work has even appeared in Game of Thrones and the Netflix smash Glass Onion.
This is a free event taking place at The Mussel Tanks on Central Beach, Lytham from 10am to 5pm
Display of ice carvings associated with local landmarks as well as a live ice carving demonstration at midday and an interactive carving wall where you can have a go yourself.
11th February
Worden Park Leyland (Free)
Less than a quarter of a mile from Leyland town centre this Green Flag award winning park is made up of more than 60 hectares of meadows and woodland with wildflower meadows and ponds.
You can ride the model railway free of charge which operates on Sundays, and Tuesdays during school holidays. The children’s playground is the largest in Leyland with equipment suitable for both pre-school and older children.

Samlesbury Hall (Free)

Samlesbury Hall situated between Blackburn and Preston is a stunning stately home with an interesting history. You can tour both the medieval house and extensive grounds.

Windmill Animal Farm has both indoor and outdoor areas for both play and animal experiences so there is plenty to do no matter the weather. You can even take a ride on the miniature farm train which is included in your ticket price.
This half term it is lambing time in the lambing barn where you can bottle feed the lambs.
